About Me
My name is Shehan Koshila Kannangara, a Landscape Architect, Sustainability Consultant, National Tourist Guide Lecturer, Naturalist, and Regenerative Tourism Practitioner based in Sri Lanka.
I studied Landscape Architecture at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka’s leading institution for the built environment. My academic training provided a strong foundation in site planning, ecological design, sustainable landscapes, and context-sensitive development, which I now apply across tourism, conservation, and community-based projects.
I am a licensed National Tourist Guide under the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), holding a national-level guiding license that authorizes me to professionally engage, interpret, and guide all international tourists visiting Sri Lanka. I also serve as a National Tourist Guide Lecturer, contributing to the professional training of future guides with a focus on ethical guiding, heritage interpretation, and sustainability-based tourism.
I am the Founder of the Bentota Cultural Dance Show, located at the Bentota Cultural Center, Aturuwela. This initiative is dedicated to the preservation and professional presentation of Low Country (Bento) dance traditions, integrating performance, storytelling, and cultural education while supporting local artists and safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.
My professional work spans eco-resort and landscape design, regenerative tourism development, community and volunteer-based tourism, and sea turtle conservation and wildlife education. I have collaborated with local communities, government authorities, international volunteers, NGOs, investors, and travelers, ensuring that projects are environmentally responsible, culturally respectful, and economically viable.
I have represented Sri Lankan youth at the United Nations General Assembly and have worked with United Nations Volunteers (UNV) on community development, youth engagement, and peacebuilding initiatives—experiences that strengthened my ability to operate confidently at local, national, and international levels.
As a regenerative tourism project practitioner, my focus is on creating initiatives that go beyond sustainability—projects that restore ecosystems, strengthen cultural identity, empower communities, and create long-term value for both people and nature. My approach is grounded in academic knowledge, field experience, and deep local understanding, avoiding generic solutions in favor of place-based design.
Through this portfolio, I share selected works, ongoing initiatives, and future concepts reflecting my commitment to regenerative design, ethical tourism, conservation, and cultural continuity. I welcome collaborations with clients, architects, tourism operators, cultural institutions, NGOs, and investors who share a vision for meaningful, responsible impact.
